HARD After Party/Music at Catnap

There’s a house called Catnap. It’s the best house in LA. It has no windows. It’s next to a bridge, train-tracks, the river, and empty warehouses. It even has a basement. On the night of HARD they threw a show with a handful of mostly acoustic musicians. Little did they know that the HARD “after party” was being thrown in the warehouse next to their house! It was an experience to move between two different worlds.  One moment I’m snapping my fingers to some participatory folk rap the next I’m in line for a whiskey coke watching kid’s eyes roll back in their heads.  Good times!

One of the highlights of the morning was when all the DJs left and the owner of the warehouse came fast walking towards the booth yelling if anyone had any CDs or an iPod.  Finally one of the sound techs plugged in a laptop and did a whole dubstep set in traktor without any midi controllers, all laptop keyboard.  And it sounded good, for dubstep.  And then they turned the speakers up, and then I found five dollars.

Pruning Trees in Downtown LA

I woke up to a symphony of chainsaws this morning.

I put my speakers out my window and blasted this:

I hope they heard it and “got it,” but the realist inside me is pretty sure they didn’t.

SKRILLEX – Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites

Sonny Moore, aka Skrillex, is one of the most talented musicians I’ve ever met. Who else has successfully transitioned from post-hardcore to dubstep and produced significant tracks in both genres? I can’t wait to hear what you come up with next Sonny!
